Journalists daily report social, political and economic activities and events whether they be in the public or government domains. However, Nigerian journalists trained in many disciplines in carrying out media functions of reportage are hardly groomed enough to understand the administration of development. The questions which arise consequently include the following: what are the core indicators of development?
How do we measure development? How do we best compare Nigeria with other climes in order to provide leading ideas? What operating environment is the Nigerian media? If all these are understood, the deciding role of culture and importantly, policy and leadership and high-thinking would matter if Nigeria is to develop.
Development is a specialized area of study, activity and planning. This book advocates the need to equip journalists with those development indicators and fundamentals in order that media practice can improve and direct governance and public policy so that in the end, the cry of bad governance and the lack of input of the citizenry might cease and Nigeria’s stagnated and stunted development may stop.
An enlightened Nigeria Media on the issues of development would matter to Nigeria’s growth. This is the thrust and focus of this book.
